OXO
OXO arises from the fusion of two different elements: a conventional shelves and a room divider. It is a piece of furniture that allows you to configure spaces with total freedom, adapting to the needs of the user.
This is a project carried out with a partner for the 21st international competition for industrial design of furniture CETEM 2016, which sought to implement new functions in everyday products or improve them. The premises that it had to fulfil were the following:
- Be able to store books and other objects being easily accessible
- Configure the space you are in
- Flexibility to adapt to user needs
- Be modular, light and economical
An entire screen is made up of two panels, located next to each other, edge to edge. Joined together by a continuous hinged or piano screwed joint, it allows the characteristic turn for this project. The choice is not arbitrary, since the objective is to design a customizable modular piece of furniture and configure it to personal disposition, expanding the number of blocks in disposition of the space that each user requires. The basic module consists of two columns of shelves joined by a pair of screens. However, with the intention of being able to include more reach, it can be coupled with a pair of screens and another shelf column.
The result is OXO, an unprecedented articulated piece of furniture that allows a wide variety of positions. Its Nordic and neutral aesthetics make it fit in many environments. It has a good storage capacity and constitutes an effective separation of the spaces, without being oppressive. The furniture is articulated by a system of two types of hinge (continuous and hinge), which allow the structure to fold and also to be removable. It is therefore very easy to install more modules to make it bigger.
